Jonne Arjoranta

I haven't read the original manga or watched the anime, so I don't know what comes from previous sources and what is original to this adaptation.

The fight-scenes are entertaining and I love the 80s cyperbunk aesthetic that the movie whole-heartedly embraces with it's crumbling cities and cybernetic bodies. Some of the plot elements are kind of hard to accept, if you don't keep reminding yourself that this is a manga adaptation.

It's not a great spoiler to say that the movie doesn't really have an ending; it just stops after a while. It's a bit disappointing, especially as some parts of the movie are fast-forwarded to get to that point. The script - especially the romantic subplot - feels like a season of anime compressed into two hours.
